Rolls-Royce plc

“Rolls-Royce has built up a good working relationship with the University of Sheffield over the past few years; we have taken on a number of Sheffield graduates with a sound understanding both of their subject area and wider issues.”

English Literature undergraduate

“I found my perfect part-time job through the Student Jobshop – I applied to an ad I’d seen in the window, was successful and have been working alongside my studies ever since. It’s not just about the extra income – I’ve met new people, built up my confidence and have tried my hand at so many tasks I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to. It’s really boosted my CV, and I’ve been given a lot of responsibility. My job is anything but dull, and it’s really added to my university experience.”

Work experience

Top graduate employers expect graduate applicants to have gained work experience during their time as a student. Our Student Jobshop and Work Experience Team can help with everything from part-time jobs, to summer internships and longer placements to gain a foothold in your chosen career. The Jobshop advertises hundreds of opportunities and provides advice on looking for work experience and making strong applications.

Develop skills

As well as the skills and knowledge you develop through your academic studies, the University provides ample opportunities to develop transferable skills that employers value; and the Careers Service enables you to gain recognition for this.

Meet employers

There are plenty of opportunities for you to meet employers on campus, from small local organisations to international businesses. At recruitment fairs, presentations and one-to-one meetings, you can find out first-hand what jobs and careers employers have to offer and find out more about their recruitment processes.
