Taste of Work

Taste of Work provides opportunities for local recruiters of part-time student workers to act as a host organisation for students wishing to build up some work experience.taste-of-work-web-logo.gif

Introduction

If you regularly offer part-time work to students in Sheffield, you may like to consider taking part in our Taste of Work scheme.

As a Taste of Work host, you would be asked to offer some work shadowing / training for a student on a regular basis. Running throughout the academic year, hosts are asked to commit to offering a minimum of one half day (c3 hours) each week to provide students with a ‘taste of work’ in your industry.

The tasks that would be covered in the taster would be agreed with you in advance and would be recorded on a certificate awarded to participating students on successful completion of their Taste of Work. The Taste of Work team undertakes matching of students each week, issuing of certificates and all administration of the scheme.

A pilot for this new scheme operated very successfully in spring 2011 and we are keen to extend the opportunity to a range of employers, as it provides an excellent way to bring together our students and the local community for the benefit of both parties.

What is in it for you?

Whilst the benefits to students are obvious, we believe there are also a number of benefits to hosts:
