We're here to helpOur team is based at 45 Victoria Street where we share an office with The Department of Philosophy. Alison and Janine are always happy to speak to you in person to help with any queries or concerns (or point you in the right direction of somebody who can help). Your Personal TutorYour personal tutor is here to provide you with one-to-one support and advice. All of our students (single honours and dual honours) are allocated a personal tutor at the start of their degree. You will meet him or her at the beginning of your course, and then you will meet at least once a semester. And if need advice or support at any other time, you can telephone or email your personal tutor and arrange to pop in. Your lecturers and tutorsAll of our teaching staff hold regular office hours where you can either drop in or make an appointment to discuss anything relating to your experience of any module. Take advantage of this opportunity to clarify any issues you have regarding assessment, coursework or the content of tutorials and lectures. Office Hours are publicised on posters around the department, can be found in the Virtual Office on MOLE 2 or you can always ask your tutor next time you see him or her. Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service has a network of Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs) who help keep the University keep abreast of disability issues and play a proactive and inclusive role in supporting disabled students. You can contact your departmental DLO to discuss support available within your department, and talk through any disability-related issues or concerns which relate to your course. In the Department of Biblical Studies, Alison Bygrave is our DLO. Online support - MOLE 2Handbooks and Course InformationEach year we publish comprehensive handbooks for both undergraduate and postgraduate students on MOLE 2. These handouts outline everything you need to know about your course (from how to hand in assessments to how your work is marked) and we encourage you to make a habit of referring to it along the way. You'll also find links on MOLE2 for each of the modules you take with us. Here, your tutors will publish handouts, lecture slides and other information you need for the module. You can access MOLE2 through MUSE. If for any reason you cannot find your modules listed there when you log in, please email us at bibs@sheffield.ac.uk and we'll help. Virtual OfficeCan't pop in to see Alison or Janine? MOLE 2 is also home to our 'Virtual Office'. If you don't have time to stop by Victoria Street - you can download everything you need online and find out the answers to some important questions (including how to report an absence if you miss a lecture). |
BibSocBibSoc is the society for the Department of Biblical Studies run by students for students. As well as socials, BibSoc focuses on bringing together students from across the department and providing opportunities to meet new people and ask questions that only another student can answer. BibSoc puts on a wide variety of socials ranging from the traditional Christmas meal and End of Year Ball to less traditional events such as laser tag and theatre visits. Make a changeMake the most of your time here by feeding into the way the Department works. Influence change and have a say! Your feedback countsEach year, you'll be given the opportunity to evaluate - anonymously and openly, your experiences of studying with us and how you've found your modules. We take your feedback seriously and it is discussed at departmental and committee level. We also encourage you to take part in various surveys that the University and external bodies undertake [for example, the National Student Survey (NSS) in your final year and The Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS; alternate years only]. Join a committeeThe Departmental Staff-Student Committee meets once a semester to formally discuss how the Department impacts upon the your experiences here. The committee is made up of staff, elected student representatives plus a Mature Students' Rep. You can raise any issues with your representative which they will bring up at the meeting. Recommendations will be passed to relevant groups. There is also a Faculty of Arts Staff-Student Committee and a Departmental Teaching Committee who discuss curriculum development, and existing courses and modules. This year our representatives are:
