
Visiting Professor
Ed McCann is a Civil Engineer and a Director of the London based Civil and Structural Engineering practice Expedition. As well as performing a strategic leadership role in the practice, He is responsible for a number of the firm’s projects including the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome, the £200m Greenwich Wharf development and the multi-award-winning Infinity Bridge in Stockton to name a few. Ed has a particular interest in the environmental performance of projects and received on behalf of his team the BAA/CIRIA 2000 Environmental Construction Award for ‘Environmentally Responsible Design’ for the design of the water supply system on the T5 project. As both a Fellow and a Trustee, Ed plays an active role in the Institution of Civil Engineers, chairing their Best Practice Panel.
Ed has been actively involved in the education of engineers for over 10 years and he is an enthusiastic member of the Joint Board of Moderators , the accreditation body for Civil Engineering courses. He has been a co-director for the Royal Designers for Industry Summer School and with Chris Wise he developed and delivered the Creative Design course to undergraduates at Imperial College between 1999 and 2005. In 2008, Ed co-founded Think Up, an educational design practice that creates high-impact transformative learning events and tools to support learning in engineering, construction and STEM projects. The following year, Ed co-founded MustRD, a research and development company that specialises in collaborating with universities to undertake academic research to support industry needs.
