University Teacher
BA(Hons) DipArch(Dist) RIBA
I am both a teacher and practitioner of architecture. As well as acting as Year 3 Director within the school, I am co-director of Emms Fowler Architects whose projects aim to be concept driven, socially and spatially motivated, simple and legible, contextual and typological, and technologically integrated.
Previous award winning projects include refurbishment and extension of Arne Jacobsen´s St Catherine´s College in Oxford (as Senior Associate for Hodder + Partners) and The Lowry arts centre in Salford (as Site Architect for Michael Wilford and Partners.)
I have also acted as visiting design tutor in a number of schools of architecture and previously held a full time Lectureship at The University of Manchester.

Year 3 Director and Studio Tutor The third year studio comprises a variety of parallel projects and aims to encourage students to develop their own position within the contextual and thematic framework provided by each one. Emphasis is upon the project as a whole as well as the end product, recognising the importance of both analysis and synthesis during the design process. Exploration and experimentation in design, technology and representation are actively encouraged and the resulting variety of design approaches acts itself as a vehicle for reflective discussion and learning within the year as a whole.
