Dr John Allan, visiting professor, is a director of Avanti Architects, a London firm known for its healthcare, educational, residential and community buildings. He is also the leading expert in the UK on the conservation of modernist architecture. He is an alumnus of the school, and his definitive monograph on Berthold Lubetkin grew out of a dissertation undertaken in his student years. He was the recipient of an honorary doctorate marking the school's centenary and led the architects' team responsible for the recent restoration of the Western Bank Library.
