We are very pleased to announce that the third Northern Hunter-Gatherer Discussion Group will be held at the University of Sheffield on Friday 9 June. Please arrange to arrive between 2.30 and 3pm, the presentations will start at 3.

The Northern Hunter-Gatherer Discussion Group began in 2005 with the aim of providing a regular informal and relaxed forum in which new research and new theoretical perspectives on prehistoric hunter-gatherers could be discussed and debated. As well as promoting discussion, a venue is provided to help develop and foster links between those whose research addresses prehistoric hunter-gatherers. The intention is that the meeting will circulate around Universities in the North of the UK on a regular basis. If you would like to either host a meeting, or give a paper about your research, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the organisers at

email : Hannah.Cobb@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk

Despite having two giants of research presenting, namely Julian Thomas and Marek Zvelebil, the format of the afternoon is relaxed and informal. Discussion will follow each paper with a wider discussion after both presentations. Refreshments will be provided, so please reply to Jenny Moore (j.moore@sheffield.ac.uk) if you can attend so that catering can be arranged. Following the format of previous Discussion Group meetings, we shall be repairing to a local hostelry around 5, where the discussions can continue in convivial surroundings.
