Children in lab at microscopes

Outreach activities

In 1904, Sheffield University promised the people of Sheffield “The University will bring the highest education within the reach of the child of the working man.” (taken from a fund raising poster). In the Department of Animal and Plant Sciences we are as committed as ever to fulfilling that promise. For this reason we have an active schools outreach programme, that aims to inspire children and show them that science is exciting and accessible to all.

What do we offer?

We welcome visits from primary schools on our ‘Be a Scientist for the Day’ programme, and we run events such as our Schools Christmas Extravaganza and our Sideshow Science events at the Weston Park Museum.  Come along and join in.

Contact us to discuss options

If you would like to bring your class on a visit to the Department, please contact us.  We’ll answer any questions that you have and can arrange a site visit for you to look at our lab and museum and discuss with us the theme(s) and details of your visit.
