What is the Sheffield Graduate Development Programme (SGDP)?
The Sheffield Graduate Development Programme (SGDP) is designed to assist you to get the most from your time at university by recognising and developing key skills you can acquire both through your studies and a variety of external activities such as employment, volunteering and leadership. A key aim is to assist you to develop these skills in order to fulfil your future aspirations. It can help you to identify areas of strength, subjects and activities you enjoy and those areas you feel need more attention.
The SGDP is intended to help you understand how your learning can be applied to a wide range of subjects, activities and skill developments. It can help to improve your study skills within the curriculum and identify opportunities for personal development outside the curriculum. As a result of this, you will be able to set your own personal goals and work towards them, whether seeking employment, further study or taking time out. The programme will also help you to reflect on other life experiences during your time at university and how these interrelate with your academic studies. Setting and meeting your own personal goals and objectives is an essential part of the review process. Your personal tutor will assist you with this process. A key element of the SGDP is to produce an effective CV as a documentation of your skills and achievements which can be added to your academic record already maintained by the department, to facilitate the production of personal references for future employers etc.
