Research Interests

Dr. Roscoe's interest in non-standard cosmologies is driven by the belief that the conventional view point, arising out of general relativity and culminating in big-bang cosmology, fails to incorporate in a 'proper' way the ideas of Mach - originally espoused by Berkeley and Leibnitz and traceable to Aristotle. He believes that the ideas of inflation, dark matter and dark energy, which are necessarily associated with the big-bang, are symptomatic of the failure of that theory. His interest in galaxy dynamics arises from the need to 'put to the test' an alternative picture which is based fundamentally on the Mach/Berkeley/Leibnitz world view.
