Postgraduate Degrees
Masters Programmes
We have a number of exciting postgraduate courses available within the Faculty of Engineering.
A degree in Aerospace Engineering opens up many opportunities to study aspects of aerospace in more detail or to diversify into a new area of engineering. If you have studied a different form of engineering before then equally we offer a range of postgraduate courses that will open up the exciting area of aerospace engineering to you.
All of our postgraduate courses are designed to give you in depth knowledge and understanding in your chosen discipline and to further develop your personal and professional skills as an engineer. They have all been developed based on our research excellence and strong links with industry and provide an excellent stepping stone to undertaking a PhD or many exciting opportunities in industry.
For the full range of postgraduate opportunities available in the Faculty of Engineering you should visit Engineering postgraduate courses with more information including how to apply at the Postgraduate Courses web page. We also offer a range of postgraduate courses that are directly relevant to aerospace engineers.
MSc in Control Systems
Control and systems engineering are essential components of modern aircraft. From sophisticated flight control systems and unmanned aerial vehicles to monitoring of gas turbine engines and the development of embedded systems, the requirements for complex control, modelling and simulation and the associated hardware implementations are critical to the safety and performance of modern and future aircraft.
The MSc in Control Systems provides a broad foundation in all aspects of control and systems engineering together with advanced concepts based on the world leading research in the Department of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering and strong industrial links including Rolls-Royce.
See MSc in Control Systems for further information.
MSc in Avionic Systems
Advances in avionics have been critical to the successful development of aerospace over the past 10-20 years. It is through developments in control, navigation, embedded systems, electrical actuation and the ability to combine and process information efficiently that we are able to fly safely and efficiently across the globe. Future aircraft concepts like the more electric aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles will further enhance how we use aircraft in our lives. The MSc in Avionic Systems is designed to provide both the breadth and depth of knowledge of all aspects of avionics necessary to equip you for careers in both research and industry.
See MSc in Avionic Systems for further information.
MSc(Eng) Aerospace Materials
Materials science and engineering have driven many recent advances in aerospace with the drive for more efficient and safer air travel. Recent advances in composites, metallic alloys and manufacturing techniques have been instrumental in the development of new aircraft such as the Boeing Dreamliner and Airbus A380. Our world leading research and collaborations with industry including the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre puts us at the cutting edge of this exciting discipline. The MSc(Eng) Aerospace Materials offers an advanced education in all aspects of composites and metallic alloys that will prepare you for careers in industry or research around the world.
See MSc in Aerospace Materials for further information
MSc(Res) Aerodynamics and Aerostructures
Whilst avionics, materials and manufacturing developments have taken many of the headlines in the development of modern aircraft, the importance of aerodynamics, propulsion and aerostructures remains and maintains a strong demand from both industry and research. In fact, the strive to more efficient aircraft that can carry more passengers, over longer distances and minimising the impact on the environment is leading to a renewed interest in these subject areas. Future aircraft concepts will depend on advanced aerodynamic and engine concepts built around state-of-the-art airframes. The MSc(Res) Aerodynamics and Aerostructures provides a range of advanced modules in these areas together with training in research methods and management with the aim of developing the aerospace research and industry leaders of the future.
See MSc(Res) Aerodynamics and Aerostructures for further information.
MSc(Res) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies
The MSc(Res) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies is an exciting collaboration between the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Automatic Control & Systems Engineering together with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. Industry is continually demanding new and advanced approaches to manufacturing and automation to both improve the quality of their products and reduce the cost and time of manufacture. Within high value industries like aerospace this is particularly true. The MSc(Res) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies is designed to meet the demand for engineers with expertise in this area. A substantial part of the degree is based around an advanced project undertaken in collaboration with AMRC and our industrial partners.
See MSc(Res) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies for further information.
