Research Training

Postgraduate studentWe recognise that carrying out pioneering research at the interface between control engineering and other disciplines is particularly challenging. It requires you to develop extensive knowledge and skills to allow you to tackle complex problems outside your specific research field. We also recognise that on completion of your PhD, as a postgraduate of the Departmentof Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, you will have the ability to choose to pursue careers and make your mark in any engineering field, as well as fields outside engineering.

Doctoral Development Programme

In order to help you develop essential skills needed in research as well as skills needed to meet the needs of future employers we have implemented a Cohort-based Doctoral Development Programme, a flexible, ongoing training plan that is an integral part of your research degree. As part of this programme, all our research students complete a common 12 weeks training programme, which offers subject-specific technical training as well a as training covering a wide range of generic transferable skills.

You will be supervised and guided by at least two world-class academics who will help you devise a personalised training plan that is tailored to your individual needs by taking into account your background as well as the specific needs of your research project.
