STFC PhD Studentship
The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering is pleased to announce the availability of a new STFC PhD Studentship.
The STFC funded PhD studentship is available at the Space Systems Group in one of the areas of interest of the Group:
- Collisionless shocks
- Plasma waves in space and astrophysical plasmas
- Solar-terrestrial relations MHD dynamo and turbulence
- Plasma environment of Venus
- Space Weather
- Numerical simulations of space plasma systems
- Solar physics and solar effects on the Earth’s environment
The studentship may be supplemented by an income from assistance in tutorials.
Applications are invited from Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering students who have graduated or expect to graduate with a first or upper-second class degree.
The studentship is available commencing 24th September 2012.
Eligibility Details
To be eligible for a full award (stipend and fees) applicants must have:
- Settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay, and
- Been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant. This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences), and
- Not been residing in the UK wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education. (This does not apply to UK or EU nationals).
- All EU nationals are eligible to receive fees only if they do not have settled status in the UK.
- Candidates with no relevant connection to the UK are not eligible to apply for the studentship.
The studentship will cover the tuition fees and provide an annual stipend of £13,590.
