Welcome to the Department of Accommodation & Commercial Services.
Accommodation & Commercial Services (ACS) are responsible for providing a huge range of essential services and facilities to staff, students and visitors across the University, including accommodation, welfare support, catering and hospitality, conferences and events, with an annual turnover of £36 million. Our international reputation for academic excellence attracts students and staff from all over the world. Come and join us and be part of the ongoing exciting developments we have planned over the coming years.
We provide accommodation and related services and support for nearly 6,000 students in our residences. We also run a number of high quality bars and food outlets, as well as providing venues, hospitality and delivered catering for meetings, conferences and special events, such as weddings and graduations. If you would like more information about booking an event with us and how we can help, please see here for further information on getting in touch with our experts.
We are proud to have been voted Number 1 by the Times Higher Education for three years in a row for our student accommodation (2013-2016). We were also awarded the CUBO (College and University Business Offices) awards for 'Commercial University of the Year 2016'. We couldn’t have reached these milestones without the dedication and commitment from our employees, as it is very much a team effort. We recognise and celebrate the importance of our employees in achieving these awards and we have several initiatives in place to develop and reward them.
Our Department has consistently been awarded the Investors in People standard, a national quality framework. We have a strong focus on customer service, holding the nationally recognised Customer First accreditation. Training and quality is the essence of our community and helps us to grow and expand with a team of dedicated and highly skilled people.
In addition to our work, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary company, UNICUS, was established in 2012 to develop a commercial proposition to enhance the offer to the University. UNICUS is exclusive to Commercial Services and operates a boutique hotel, a village store for the community, a high end restaurant, seven retail outlets and a staffing agency. The budgeted turnover for 2015-16 for UNICUS is £4.9m and the company has a workforce of 80.
