Catering options

Choosing to live in University accommodation is all about choice. One of the choices you'll get to make when you apply is whether to live in self-catering accommodation or in rooms that come with a catering contribution included in the rent.

Here are some details about both options to help you decide which is best for you.

Self-catering

Self-catering

Going self-catering is the right choice for students who love to cook. You'll be budgeting for, buying and cooking all your food yourself. The majority of our accommodation is self-catering – it's available in The Endcliffe Village, The Ranmoor Village and City and Central Campus. Self-catering accommodation has full kitchen facilities, including a fridge-freezer, oven, hob, microwave, kettle and toaster.

Catered

Catered food

One of the main benefits of living in catered accommodation is that the majority of your meals are already budgeted and paid for – so you’ll never go hungry, even when money is tight.

All our catered accommodation is in The Endcliffe Village, but you can spend your contribution in any of our venues around campus.

Why go catered?

Accommodation with a catering contribution is ideal for students who don’t like cooking and don't want to have to do much food shopping. It's also a great way to help you budget.

The catering contribution

  • Each week during term time, you'll get a £43.40 catering contribution to spend on food and drink in a number of cafés, restaurants and coffee shops around campus.
  • There are no set meal times – you choose when, where and what you eat.
  • £43.40 will be added to an eatwithUS card each week. You then use the card to pay when you purchase food and drink. It is designed to cover the cost of your breakfast and one other meal throughout the day – not all your meals and snacks.
  • If you don't spend your £43.40 during the week, any remaining amount will be carried over.
  • Catered properties have limited cooking facilities. There's a kitchenette with a fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave - ideal for heating up snacks but not for preparing full meals.
